Between the Krivoklatska highland and the Horovicka upland, at the confluence of the Berounka and Litavka rivers, in the vicinity of the Cesky Kras and the Krivoklat forests. From time immemorial, a ford and a ferry, an important crossroads. A fortified, military town with massive walls and gates, later, also thanks to an important railway line from Prague to Germany, an industrial town.

Founded: 1179, population: 20 000, altitude: 235 m, region: Stredocesky.
