Between the Brdy deep forests in the west and the Benesovska upland in the east, on the Litavka river and the Pribram creek, below Svata Hora. From ancient times, an important mining town, mainly silver, in the 16th century a royal mining town. The so-called Athens below Brdy, a popular place for Antonin Dvorak, a city of theaters and music, but also the center of the engineering, textile and food industries.

Founded: 1216, population: 32 000, altitude: 502 m, region: Stredocesky.
